Description
Used to separate valuable minerals from gangue during flotation.
Sodium ethyl xanthate (SEX) is a
yellowish, powdery or pelletized organosulfur compound with the formula C₂H₅OCS₂Na. It is a water-soluble salt of ethyl xanthic acid and is widely used in the
mining industry as a flotation agent for the recovery of sulfide ores (e.g., copper, lead, zinc). SEX is a strong collector with high selectivity but can decompose in moist or acidic conditions, releasing carbon disulfide, which makes it
flammable and hazardous. Proper handling and storage in dry, cool, well-ventilated conditions are essential.
